"My seven-year-old niece, Kaylee... Her brother Braden..." THOSE NAMES DID NOT EXIST IN 1960!!!!!! How can I trust anything to be historically accurate after this??????

Otherwise this is pretty good so far.

The purplest of prose. 100 pages in and NOTHING has happened. My husband assures me it's one of the best books he's ever read, you just have to push through. I also am going to have to push through weird almost fettishy language about the blond hair blue eyed pale skin middle eastern people (???!??!??!!!) How good is a book if you have to ignore and forgive 70% of what is written?

This book is excruciatingly and ironically dull. I'm not quite ready to quit, but I am going to take a break and see if I want to pick it up again later. I'm disappointed because I wanted to love this because they are making a musical!

Funny, but has no substance, at least not enough for me to keep going.

Orpheus???? If so, I'm very excited! One of my favorite stories of all time. Also, I'm moving so slowly through this book. I'm just getting lost in the words, and it's making my mind wander.

I'm finding a huge difference in Aristotle's reasoning from Plato's, with Aristotle's being superior (in my opinion). Though they both use a similar method, Aristotle's train of thought seems more balanced and more objective. However, Plato is considerably easier to read, makes me wonder if his accessibility is what drew people to his work. Going to put Ethics down for a bit and move onto something else.

I'm trying so hard to enjoy this book, but instead I find myself looking for every opportunity to get distracted from it.

I have been wanting to read a Dorothy Sayers novel for ages. Her essay, "Are Women Human" is one I refer to with an annoying regularity. But I am so bored and I don't care about any of the characters largely because there are too many. I recognize it's really early to call it quits. Those of you who have read it, is it worth it to push through?

Went into this thinking I knew the story, but so far this is just about an egotistical boy who does something unbelievably stupid and I don't feel sorry for him one bit. Still hopeful the story will end up as heart wrenching as I've heard it is.

Listen, this is nice enough. Some beautiful little anecdotes and remarks on life, but there is no plot and I'm bored. I don't want to do this for 200 more pages. So, nothing against the book, and I won't rate since I'm dnf it, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for an engaging story.

I so wanted to love this book, but I am finding it desperately irritating and pointless. I don't know if I want to abandon it completely yet, but I must put it down for a while.

The premise sounded so fun and I loved the idea of the second person narrative. However, this is clearly just a lazy way to publish all his unfinished work. My only hope is that he will tie it all together in the end. Somehow I doubt it.

Quitting. This book doesn't seem to be about Tolkien and Lewis. Its about WWI and how they just happened to be alive at the time. They are rarely even mentioned.
