Done with Book One and wow Cathy Ames really is Evil, I'm quite excited for Florence Pugh to play such an utterly psychopathic woman. The framing of the teaser trailer for the Netflix adaptation from her POV feels like the start of her emotional manipulation.

Okay we've finally got to part II, determined to finish it before book club on Sunday!

It is still light and picking up now but just a PSA, if you're reading this for a happy read when you're going through a depression episode (this happened to a friend that is me) that the main character is at the hotel because she wants to commit suicide there, and I know she won't etc but there's a good 10% of this book which is the depressing backstory behind the decision, which is not good if you're spiralling.

#6 The Silver Chair - really quite charming, I'm playing the long game here to see Greta adapt this but otherwise I'm told the old Tom Baker TV version is a delight

This is a reread, I got a dusty old paperback from the depths of Western Bank Library in Sheffield back in the day (February 2018) before the film came out and now it is getting me through some sickly sleepless nights in Malta
