A bit sentimental, quite romantic, and slightly anti-intellectual, this is too personal to be philosophical, but I was in a friendly frame of mind at the time I picked it up, and I enjoyed it. Only at the end did I realize that the women appear in Gros’ stories only to be used to tell a story of another man; this makes the book very French and very middle-aged (Gros was between 40-50 when he wrote this).
