What an incredible story. I’ve read the story of Shackleton’s boat journey, but never of the other half of the expedition.

Excellent!! Includes much backstory on the period of time prior to the Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings.

Re-reading for the first time since I was a kid. I appreciate just how good it is even more now. Sure I can nitpick chapters that are a little too wordy and don’t progress the plot at 100% pace, but it is a masterwork of continued world-building.

Lives up to the long-lived hype. Excellent.

So so very long. Nearly 900 pages. Almost there. Incredible work by Richard Rhodes.

What a masterpiece. Fantastic sci-fi.

Very interesting (especially for a geology nerd and Mt St Helens local like myself). Lots of previously unheard stories and perspectives from people who witnessed and were caught in the eruption.

Interesting short stories about the origins of different colors/dyes/pigments we use and take for granted every day.

Much improved. Took 100 pages to get going, but has now sucked me in. Great sci-fi!

Picked back up after a while sitting next to my bed. Finally some action…characterizations are still meh, but am looking forward to seeing what happens.
