We have a MAGICAL CONNECTION. It was my first hard eyeroll. The romance is the weakest angle, as I remember it being in the 2nd book at least.

I'm suspicious of Bridie too. Maybe she's a red herring, but I'm always suspicious of convenient characters showing up out of nowhere.

THAT was the comment I meant to make. Zimmerman disappeared for like 100 pages. Did the author forget about him or is it on purpose???

It's got to be the English teacher who brought the book in. He's shady af if not.

So it's slowed down and gotten a bit tedious, but it's still the most I've read in a long time.

She started crying because "her woman's body wept" because she had lost forever the chance to have a child? Oh wow. Yeah, if she really wanted a kid that bad she wouldn't be waiting until 46 to seriously consider it. And not every lady who doesn't have children has her "woman's body" weep about it. Ugh.

Couldn't find a Hewson married to Roger Manwood's daughter, there was a Leveson sometimes called Lewson though. Seems like one source propagated the Hewson name.

I'm seeing a distinct Catholic bias so far. William Allen left England because he was a Catholic? He left to be a priest and was involved in divers plots against the English government. Yeah, not safe to stay in the place you plot against.

Northumberland wasn't spelled Northemberland, it's Westmorland that at the time was often seen as Westmerland.

Sir Philip Sidney never had a 9 year old son. He died with one daughter, another daughter was born shortly after his death, but also died soon after. I think the author may be referrring to when Henry Sidney, his father, wrote to him as a child with pretty similar sentiments.

"Sardonic" is used 18 times. That's extremely excessive. In comparison, there are only 35 mentions of London, where the book is set.

My ebook has an error/typo where it says "you" where it should say "your". I was worried from the first book that this one might be in dire need of editing.

Ok, so in 1650 England and the US weren't separate countries. She's not exactly wrong, since at her time they were, but it would be more correct to not do that. Another issue I have with the editor.

This is something that definitely taints your soul when reading. I feel like I can't even watch anything I like right now because this will bleed over. He was definitely a liar, narcissistic, grandiose and of course a raging psychopath. I don't know exactly what is true and isn't, but there are several points so far that I strongly doubt despite his claims of "final truth".

It's kind of impressive the amount of science included here. I've definitely already learned a few things (practiced my fractions), and learned some new words. This is also pretty interesting to me as someone with a history degree. People's attitudes in the early 20th century, what they were eating and why is all pretty cool to learn.

Damn my love for Eliot Waugh. Had to read the Lev Grossman short story, which meant reading this. So far, a few stories have been really good, some really bad, and some kind of alright. No obvious pattern yet.
