Definitely just wasn't in the mood for this the first time around. So far so good

Previously DNF'd at 15% but I think it was because I wasn't in the mood to read it so lets see what happens with my 2nd attempt

Not sure I like Aila. Also not loving the lack of description of the animals and plant life. 'The screaming mynas should be dozing in the afternoon, roosting high in the cecropia leaves.' Okay but what do either of those things look like?

I really thought I'd enjoy this as its a similar style to India Holton but her writing seems more accessible. So far, its extremely overwritten which I understand makes sense as the FMC is documenting what she sees in the field in detail but I'm going to need a dictionary to understand most of this book. Also, the audiobook narrator can barely breath by the end of all these long run on sentences.

Obsessed. This book combines a few of my favourite genres ❤️

The Hunger Games + Divergent but with magic. Enjoying it so far but it seems like its taking me forever. Tealah was a bridge too far, the host of the interviews with the contestants before they go into the trials with bright blue hair? Come on now

Extra hate that one of the characters is expecting another baby while his wife his unhappy with how much he takes care of the kids they already have so he decides she must need him to change nappies faster and 3 grown adults agree with this and invade the MMC's work space to time him on changing nappies on a plastic baby? Baffling and just plain stupid as a plot point.
