Pg 38 & Anna Lembke asserts that some pain from surgery is beneficial for the healing process. As someone who had four wisdom teeth removed under general, but without being given any pain killers, I can tell you the pain upon waking was utterly unbearable. I became violently ill and the effect of that pain on my entire body meant recovery took months.
