It’s not going.

Impressive guide book. The Contexts section goes in depth regarding history, religion, art, and environment.

Weird

Still boring. Decided to skip to chapter 100 —76%.

I’m about half way into the audiobook which I let play as a kind of white noise at this point every now and then skipping to The next chapter to see what is now actually happening. After the first 50 pages I thought oh maybe this will be good. Alas it is so boring. In chapter 55 or so the details of killing a whale actually seemed refreshingly on point, and then horrifying in their lack of emotional content.

I don’t usually like dramatizations, finding them difficult to follow in audiobooks. But this is fascinating and there is lovely music. Pleasant introduction to this lengthy classic.

Listened to Meryl Streep read this book all the way to Tokyo. Beautiful.
