The Calamity of Souls remains strikingly relevant because of its exploration of justice versus power and racial inequality - issues still shaping our world this very day. Baldacci shows how systems meant to protect can be warped by influence, and how uncovering the truth often demands moral courage few are willing to risk.

Interesting topic – I liked both female characters. Alternating chapters gives different insight into what is happening in both women's lives, which I liked. It wasn't 'deep enough' of a book for my liking. Seem to gloss over such incredible issues about the conflicts, demands, emotions, and sacrifice of surrogacy with one big brush and elementary-style writing.
