“‘Fuck you,’ whispers Slothrop. It’s the only spell he knows, and a pretty good all-purpose one at that.”

This was annoying the shit out of me because the author makes so many statements that are demonstrably false. Music journalists ignorant of music history before their first birthday is a pet peeve.
But then I realised this makes the book a drinking game:. Every false statement take a drink.
Imma be fucked by chapter 10.

I’ve had a crush on Cosey for like 40 years and I love Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and Chris & Cosey so I was super excited about this.
But I feel like I’m reading someone’s unedited diary - and not in a good way.
There’s so much minutia and I think it’s over 500 pages (I’m reading the Ebook). Not sure I’m going to make it to the end.

This is a timely and important book.
Particularly recommended for anyone that has to abide people who use “Identity Politics” as a pejorative.

This is a fucking CHORE.
But so was Ulysses which it has much in common with stylistically and I eventually learned to love that so I’ll plow on.
I’ve laughed out loud a few times but am finding I have no real sense of who the (bazillion!) characters are. It’s like a hallucinogenic blur.
Also: it’s pretty much a book about boners so there that.

I’m listening to the audiobook.
(On Scribd. It’s like Netflix for Ebooks and audiobooks!)
The production is great: Multiple narrators many of whom are musicians. (Paul Stanley! ⭐️)
I’m loving the inclusion of IRL musicians and anecdotes in the narrative but overall it’s a wee bit too sentimental for me.

I enjoy Rick’s TV show. He seems like a compassionate, open minded, dude. But I find myself cringing when he says things like: The political situation here is too complex for this program; so I had high hopes for this book.
So. Much. Neoliberal. Bullshit.
