Heather is 50% done with The Highland Fling
The main character is the most obnoxious, immature, idiotic, inappropriate woman ever written. She blatantly ignores safety threats and urgency, she makes penis jokes with strangers, and when she kisses him and he says no, she yells at him for not letting her kiss him. No means no, stupid woman. She’s absolutely horrible. I paid for the book or I’d DNF it.

Heather is reading The Babysitter
Baby Eden is abducted from the park while out with her babysitter. Her mother is beside herself, the babysitter is dazed, and the kidnapper… is the father?

This book is told from three different perspectives from the moment after the abduction to an update three months later. The changing narratives were an interesting way to tell the story and learn everyone’s feeling and motives during the event.

This one is moving to the DNF shelf. I like YA fiction and love the premise but holy crap, the main character was absolutely insufferable. I read through the first 13 chapters and just couldn’t stomach it anymore. I wish I liked it more since it has high reviews and the idea sounds great (and it’s 8 books!), but woof. Power to you if you can handle a book that truly seems like it was written by a 12 year old.

Heather is on page 483 of 592 of Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America
An excellent, thorough study on the roots and evolution of race in America. From the earliest days of slave trading in Europe, through colonization of America, to today, Kendi covers topics that I, a 15 year professional historian, have never heard about. Very well organized and researched, this is a book I highly recommend-- but only if you're going to read it slowly and carefully. There's too much to miss.

Heather is reading The Thirteenth Tale
This book has a lot going on! You’re being told a story in a story, but there are many little side mysteries that you find yourself solving along the way. Very well written with just enough detail left out for your imagination to fill in the blanks for more mysteries.
