Cannot put this book down. Incredibly unique and logically oriented magic system + badass, intelligent, morally complex female lead + compelling and heartbreaking deuteragonist + incredible action. Very happy I went into reading this book completely blind. The twists and turns of the plot are FANTASTIC.

The prose is absolutely perfect. It conveys intricate character motivations with a graceful and empathetic tone. Wecker's pacing and sentence structure reminds of Susanna Clarke. She reveals the depth and detail of 1899 New York City in a wonderful manner. Along with the mythology and folklore of Judaism and Islam...so cool.
