I've taken a little break in my reading but picked the book up again. I am enjoying it but I just don't believe I truly love any of the characters as much as I loved Corban and Maquin and Gar and Cywen and Alcyon and almost all the "goodies" in the original 4 books.

There are bad guys, really bad guys and good guys in this book and I am only just convinced that the good guys will win out in full.

I really want to see all of the Ben-Elim and Kadoshim dead.

My theory for the series ending is that the Kadoshim will all be killed the Ben-Elim will be sent to the Otherworld again by Elyon and the good guys will triumph.

I really hope I am right.

The plot is developing a little too slowly. I know something crazy will happen soon but at the moment the only "good" guys are pretty much off screen and we've had 200 pages of Drem, Cullen and Keld trying to escape and I am getting bored.

I think this might be the worst book I've read of John Gwynne's, we have a chase in this book between Drem and Fritha that is not going anywhere (literally). They seem to be incapable of moving any great distance.

I hope it ends in something epic, I'm at the 1/3 point and it's a B- ATM. It will really need to pick it up.

The level of moral greyness is annoying me. The actual good guys seem far away and unheard.

Ooooh Drem and Fritha is gonna be a good fight at the end of this.

I am still not over how the Ben-Elim are being portrayed as Cult leaders with harems of women who are brainwashed... Don't like it at all. I want them all dead.

I am not sure I like the themes of this book.

Having Riv be a secret love child of Kol and Aphra was expected but Kol's absolute control is disgusting, terrifying and deeply saddening to read.

I really hope ALL the Ben-Elim AND Kadoshim are dead by the end of the third installment.

The sexual politics discussed in this book so far have been very scary and contemporary. It has made me feel uncomfortable reading it

I am betting that Fritha is one of the bad guys... Too suspicious, and she's deffo still alive so I reckon she's a bad'un.

There was fear then that we were going to have Asroth vs Mecial part 2 electric boogaloo!

I am glad we haven't... yet. I am still fearful that I may be not it book 1 of a sequel trilogy and instead in book 5 of 7...

Corban defeated Asroth, let's not have that mean jack shit. This is "Somehow Palpatine returned" levels of horseshit.

Oooooh I will be a very happy reader if Drassil gets what's coming to it FIRST! Although I will be shocked if that actually happens.

I think I would like to see a Ben-Elim weakened and scattered and having to go in search of help and being less 'holier than thou'.

Can't wait to see what I get!

Oooooh I do like how Sig is doing in this. I am just fearful that Gwynne is going to kill off my buddies!

Finally in Dun Seren proper so that I can see what happened to my beloved heroes!

I am going to predict that Dun Seren will be sacked and destroyed by bad guys because of course it will!

It's a good fun book :)

It's really pretty good. I just get annoyed when the characters do stupid stuff but they are never not within the realm of the characters actual actions.

Like they never seem out of character to do the dumb thing.

Older character/ father figures dying? Another bit of a trope with Fantasy writing in general that is used a bit too often by Gwynne here.

It seems like the story is going to become predictable. The sword is gone, obviously to be found by the bad guys, to be taken back and then destroyed... Ughhhh.

And John manages to pull out a great chapter again! I do love his writing when it's thriller/ mysterious/ exciting, he does it very well!

Just that trope of the bad guy not being punished properly and escaping is a bit tiresome after 4 books.

Another 1 out of 5 chapter from John. Why does he love this trope of having evil cunts commit a crime, or attempt murder or whatever and let the "good" guys spare them just so they can escape later on and be bigger bastards until they get their comeuppance right at the end?

It's stupid, it brings down the quality and believability of the world and setting. I hope that these evil bandits get got very very quickly.

I reckon that Israfil, the bastard leader of the Ben-Elim, will be murdered by his own in a Caesar style assassination.

I really don't like the "Pure blood" anti race-mixing religious fundamentalism he portrays. Hope he gets what's coming to him!

Ooooh it's getting fun! The Ben-Elim seem like right bastards!

I am looking forward to how this is all weaved together. What is going to be the first big hit in this game?

I am sure I am going to get some good uses out of this one. Because there's a lot of things I used to know!
