Sometimes I like to revisit the classics. This one of those times

So far Miss M is following along. We are talking a lot about Emily as we go along and I'm trying to introduce her to the idea if narrative devices, character development as we go.

The truth is there aren't any grown-ups. Not one, in the whole wide world. Except for Granny, of course.

Terrifying and brilliant

Maybe because the author's voice is present, that the words on the page drip with the sound of Neil Gaiman speaking, combined with those words artfully placed on each page with careful thought and superb design aesthetic. I want this book in my personal library to take down and read through to flip idley to random pages. To spur me on to make great art.

I couldn't help grinning as I read this on the bus home from the library. Full of incredible advice. The live speech is amazing but this beautiful small book, Gaiman's speech made solid transcends the spoken word.

So far intriguing but I am not a huge fan of first person narrative fiction in a present tense. The black and white situation that Trix finds herself in at the beginning of the book was a little too extreme. Granted that the book is written for an audience much younger than myself who often do see things as either one thing or another

First time in a very very long time that I've found a new book longer than a picture book that I've wanted to keep reading.

I'm hearing the narrator speak in the voice of the character of Dexter; monotone-ish and with little inflection as though he is apart from the world he travels in.

Thinking about the difficulties of family, how crazy and crooked the stories of a bloodline can be.

All these things that I was sure were lost down a tunnel of time forever have suddenly come back... Everything is always here, is always now.

watched the movie with my inlaws a few years ago and was intrigued to see how the book was. seeing some of the reviews I'm a little worried but going to give it a go
