Ugh, I hate it when GR recommends to me a cute, cozy little cottagecore romantasy book, but when I bring up the info there's no LGBTQ+ tag. You expect me to read about heteronormative romantasy love?? Like, a ladytype kissing a fellowtype? GROSS!

The feeling when you have your next book all planned, and then you discover the actor that played your favorite Star Trek character actually wrote a book from that character's perspective and now you're to-read list is in upheaval.

As things get more and more dire, I must now ask myself: Do I follow the dreams leading me to Vegas, or to Hemingford Home, Nebraska?

If you think about it, EVERY good book is a "self-help" book.

Sometimes, especially now that my little one isn't quite little enough to let me read to her anymore, I wish I could click a filter so that I didn't see YA fiction on this site.

Man, as soon as the blurb mentions a character being having to marry someone against their will/better judgement, I'm the fuck OUT. Sometimes, tropes is fer dopes, y'all.

TFW you spot what looks to be an awesome book, and then you see those two dreaded words in the 'Genres' list:

Calling a book 'poignant' in the blurb is a great way of making sure I never read that book.

Sometimes, I find myself overwhelmed by the huge amount of awesome books I can read. And other times (like now), I scroll through my GR updates and see nothing but Urban Fantasy featuring strong (but totes gorgeous) heroines falling in love (and/or fucking) while saving/slaying/fucking monsters, or books that look like The Gone Girl on the Train with all the Gifts. Or fucking Harry Potter.

So I get a friend request from someone. I have it set so you need to tell me whyyyyy to send the request, and the answer was "We like similar books." So I hit the old 'compare books' and there's only 2 matching, which neither of us have read. And now I feel dirty, and stalked, and must cry in the shower.

My new favorite pastime: finding GR reviewers who complain about swearing or violence in books, comparing our shelved books, and high-fiving myself when there are less than 5 books in common.

“Walk away,” he said. “Right now. Walk away.” “No,” I hissed, but my heart pounded. “All right, then. Come with me.” “I’ll scream,” I said. “You do that,” he said, cool as the far side of the pillow.

Besides, as I have never tired of telling my Christian followers, we pagans rarely persecute Christians. We believe there are many gods, so we accept another man’s religion as his own affair, while Christians, who perversely insist that there is only one god, think it their duty to kill, maim, enslave, or revile anyone who disagrees. They tell me this is for our own good.

Father Beocca had taught me the nailed god’s ten commandments, but I had long learned that the chief commandment of the Christians was ‘Thou shalt make my priests wealthy’.

"Is that rust?" "Hell, no. That’s character. And just wait till you hear her. She roars like the MGM lion.” I thought it more likely she death-rattled like the lion that prick dentist shot.

Made to Kill (Ray Electromatic Mysteries, #1)
As I rolled forward at a hundred miles a week I first counted all the clothes boutiques with women’s names that ended in an I. Then I counted all the colors of neon used in the signs for steak houses. There were a lot of both and I came to the conclusion that the citizens of this town liked dresses and they liked steak. Didn’t seem too bad a combination.
