I didn't expect this to be so funny why am I laughing out loud at a 1000 year old oral epic... "she won't let our servants die of old age" ... at one point a dude composes a diss track and gets jumped for it...what this desperately needs though is a more vernacular translation that's willing to try and draw out the humour and pathos at the expense of a little formality

Okay this is incredible so far. Very accessible once it gets going but written in a very powerful compelling way. First book about trauma I haven't had to DNF for misogyny before 10% in. Im gonna quote this so much. and BUBER MENTIONED 💪

this is like exhausting to read because it's so beautifully written but it reads like a short story in that every single sentence demands attention and I still haven't really decided if that's a good thing or a bad thing

You can tell how bad I've been hurt before because my jaw actually physically dropped when I realised this is actually quite well written and none of the characters are ridiculously annoying

I need to learn that when goodreads users say a book is complex they mean it has a lot of characters when they say it's mature they mean it uses the word politics sometimes and when they say it's queer they mean the main character is aromantic and people sometimes allude to the possibility of two women getting married
