I want to like it, but so far, the misery p0rn vibes are coming in too strong. Still gonna finish the book though.

The semester's about to start, which means it's time for self-indulgent reads for my mental health.

I'm honestly astounded at how much this book trivializes cult behavior for the sake of romantic development.

I'm astounded by the amount of casual incest and pedophilia.

Leave it to Aristotle (and a majority of philosophers) to explain in five paragraphs what they can state simply in three sentences.

Main protagonist has his head so far up his ass that he thinks everything is about him. He's also the epitome of 'Check your privilege!'

Plus, the author takes 165 pages to introduce the mystery (the supposed focus) of the novel. Everything up until that is exposition that gets me to dislike the main protagonist more and more.

I hope this book gets better.

Author can't seem to decide on a writing style to stick to. It's annoying.

No one in the main cast is likeable (except for one) and implausibilities in this murder mystery abound.

Also, unnecessary sideplot focused on the main character's infuriating sister, who's mental health issues cause her to lash out and be terrible. Yet her siblings continue to coddle her! Totally healthy.

I am not impressed, but I might as well finish this.

Yay, incest?
