This is a wonderful book, magical realism in the unique style that is a feature of this author's work. The translation from the Russian is so well done that it's not at all apparent that it's in translation! It is well worth the time to sit down with this book and allow it to wash over you, a good winter read!

Very engaging and approachable!

A lovely book that incorporates a good amount of history into the story line. If my memory is correct, this does a much better job at that than Sarum - but it's been years since I read that book.

So I've barely entered into this wonderful book - said to be the very first novel written. Regardless, the style, and world, is so different from any other novel I've read, that it immediately draws me into it's arms, hopefully that will continue!
