In the same way that William Styron’s memoir was revolutionary for its time, this is an important book for the society it was written in, but for people more versed in mental health, it’s kind of exhausting and indulgent.

Ted talk person gets a book deal. Yawn. I might not even have the strength to finish this as a hate read. Rah rah go network! It might be encouraging if I knew anyone making any money in any field I’m interested in. But it is solidifying my regret in not doing to medical school 30 years ago. Very impractical read for someone in a midlife crisis who is interested in paying the rent.

I’d want If Books Could Kill to do this, but there’s nothing to say. I feel like it’s very Boomer calling other Boomers out. Hmm published in 2007 after the secret in 2006. Of the era.

So far, so tedious. Yawn. Drinking the “what the bleep” kool aid.

This book made me think of the phone game Ingress. I instinctively chose green. A lot of the story is how some of the characters came around to that mindset.

Laura Yoo is on page 153 of Natural Causes: An Epidemic of Wellness, the Certainty of Dying, and Killing Ourselves to Live Longer
I see what the other reviews are on about that she goes on and on about macrophages. It’s interesting, but this could be two separate books. One specifically about how your own cells that are supposed to be defending you propagate cancer and one on how the wellness industry is a scam. I suppose to the author they are the same, or at least more interconnected than it is currently coming across.

This book is probably going to derail my career a bit (licensed acupuncturist and esthetician). I feel like my calling is more in public health, but after the last 2 years, who would work in that?

It doesn’t ease you in at all, so the first 20-30 pages are extremely confusing. It’s so fun, though!

I feel like I might enjoy this more if I had any familiarity with the opera. I have a performance with English subtitles saved to my YouTube watch later. I love John Lithgow and B. D. Wong and am trying to see it in my head.
