This almost never happens to me - I can’t remember the last time I started a book and didn’t finish it. This one was a library loan that I renewed once to try to get through it, but I just couldn’t get into the story. When I realized I was only 39% through (thanks Kindle!), I decided it wasn’t worth sticking it out.

Great character study that almost ignores the big metaphysical and supernatural questions, instead focusing on how a Rapture-like event would affect the daily lives of those left. The ending was unsatisfying in terms of plot and entertainment, but left me thinking about the characters long after I put the book down.
