Unclear if at this point this would still be for me after putting this on my TBR in 2020 but I would like to try it as we head into the Olympics

This book goes in and out of interest for me. Sometimes I know what’s happening and sometimes it’s a jumble of names and places. Like the biggest game of clue with a never ending stream of characters, locations, and weapons written on page. It moves extremely slowly and it’s only “cozy” with the stakes being nonexistent because theres no way to tell if something is important.

Catty is my least favorite character, and the flashbacks in Alice’s perspective are actually annoying and not helpful for context because she’s not in this reality anymore. I’ve been struggling with her point of view this entire time. I kind of tune out when her past is the focal point.

Ok I need to be honest: he’s kind of dramatic and overacts a lot. He is just entering therapy at the end of this book and I get that he’s trying to work through his trauma but damn, he gets so angry when she’s trying to shuffle her sisters out the door because she has a guy over. Stop gripping the sheets! Stop yelling at her!

I’m feeling like this has more sex than heart right now and it’s bothering me but I’ve had a streak of DNFs recently that i would like to avoid

The vibes are very Jonny Depp Alice in Wonderland and Ella Enchanted rolled into one

Enjoying this a lot more than The Wishing Game so far

I don’t think I like it but going to keep going to give it a solid try

My Spotify listening time ran out for the month and I’m devastated. Waiting in line on Libby or waiting for my sub to re-up, but would love to finish with audio.

Very short choppy sentences for a story about a storyteller. Sometimes it’s a little off putting. The stakes are also kind of high but through the eyes of a 13-year-old it’s confusing how she’s figuring out so much. There are some holes in her storyline. The world building happens throughout even though we’re on a spaceship, which can sometimes be annoying and distracting from the actual plot.

I figured out the twist a while ago and I am definitely not the target audience for this so I don’t feel that it’s detrimental to the story but these characters are much much younger than this author has written previously. This is true early YA and very long winded for what it is
