This is the story of Chaz Yates, an American college kid who just wants to study engineering and spend time with his girlfriend. And he does.
Then his life goes to hell.
His GF breaks up and leaves.
Horrible plagues hit.
Then the aliens invade.

Getting ready to give this one a quick facelift in preparation for the sequel. A little internal design work and a tweak or two to the cover.

This is my light-hearted take on a slice of the greater Cthulhu mythos. It's fast-paced and will leave you guessing what's gonna happen next.

“I want a nice place to live. If you’re going to blow up the Earth, then I want an amazing house somewhere in a place called Not-blown-up. A location suitable to my refined needs. Also, an unlimited credit card and somewhere to use it. Oh, and a truck like yours. Only nicer.”
Kiki looked to his truck and then back at her. “A deal is made.”

Now, there’s bloody few people here worth killing, much less saving. But at least for today, that number’s above zero.
There are two girls; both around fifteen years old and nearly feral. Creator only knows how they got to this hole. Maybe they were born here, but I suppose that’s irrelevant. They’re here.
For this year’s charity event, I’m getting ‘em out.

“Monster.” She wanted to say more, but her mind recoiled.
“We’ve a Messenger Guild station here. Can get word to the Jarl’s castle right fast. What do we say?”
Strength momentarily returned, Tivonia pulled the larger, taller guardswoman close and stared into her wide eyes with a ferocious intensity. “Tell the Jarl the cannibal was too strong.
“Tell him to send the army.”

“That’s odd, they usually just show up a couple at a... time.” My voice trails off as more ships appear.
Then a lot more fly in.
Dozens of ships fill the sky. As far away as the school is from the spaceport’s landing area, the thunder of the flight engines shake my bones. The sound beats against me like waves hammering a stormy beach.
“Are... are we being invaded?”"

Having a hard time getting into this one. Sorta feels like the kick ass MC from the last 12 books has been replaced with an emo teen. Will pick it up again in a few days and see if it picks up.

Love this story, so far! To do a fantasy mystery right, it should be more than a mystery set in a fantasy world--it should hinge on fantasy elements. This one does exactly that and I'm loving it!

I'm loving the chance to spend some quality time with Vlad as he wanders about trying to solve this bucket (castle?) of mysteries.

Pretty darn satisfying ending.

This book has a cool premise but I'm not clicking with the main character. I'm halfway through and I'm kinda rooting against him now. Gonna keep reading because I strongly suspect there's some curve to his character arc coming up soon.
