Some of the writing is clumsy, but it's rich in details and nicely paced with engaging characters.

I became interested in this book after reading another of Riddle's books, A History of the Middle Ages.

Some advice is dangerous, such as putting babies to sleep on their tummies or giving a child aspirin for a fever. Other advice holds true.

Lots of big academic words, but overall it seems well researched and written so far.
