This is a dreadfully bad book. I bought it thinking Scottoline was as good a writer as she is an editor -- but I won't make this mistake again.

I see there's a film version of this book. All of 2 hours long, it is. Ha!

What am I going to do after I'm done reading this book? I feel as if I am living with the Buddenbrooks. I want to have a good talk with Tony!

This book is so much better in German because of the North German dialect that Mann uses so liberally. It adds a lot of humor and depth to the characters. The story is utterly fascinating so far -- and who ever thought you could get that much detail out of a description of breakfast?

A little while back, the story took an abrupt turn: as if the author had taken a few months off from writing and had come back with radically different ideas of what constituted the main narrative.

Finished book 1 about 2 weeks ago; am planning to read it as it was intended: as a serial, separated by some weeks or months.

1429. Okay...that's the first half. I'm putting off reading the second set of four books: heck, the author took a long time to write it, so I can take equally long to read it.

I'm on the 4th volume of this set; bear in mind, the entire book is two such sets, so right now I'm not quite half way through. I'm enjoying every word.
