DNF. Couldn't get into it. I tried, but it was really dry & didn't grab my attention. Maybe I'll try again sometime.

Teresa is starting Twilight (The Twilight Saga, #1)
Yes, I've read this before, and I know the series and movies get a lot of flack, but I don't really care- I really enjoy this series and since I've been seeing movie clips popping up on YouTube recently, I thought I'd give it a little revisiting.

UGH. People in books who are being stalked, attacked, victimized, their house repeatedly broken into, etc who refuse to have COMMON FREAKING SENSE about protecting themselves, drive me crazy. I just want to grab the main character by the shoulders and shake him, yelling "CHANGE YOUR DAMN LOCKS, IDIOT!!"

This book is so weird- Pretentious language and descriptions, written as if in the midst of a vivid mescaline trip. I'm not really sure why I keep reading it.

I'm enjoying this story so far! The romantic development between Jasmine & Eric is natural and organic, not as predictable as many romantic stories tend to be. But so far, my two favorite characters are the dog, Francis- I wish he was a real life dog so I could give him hugs and skritches- and Moira, who I picture as a kind of a cross between Dita Von Teese and the Penelope Garcia character from Criminal Minds.

So far, this book is intense & immersive, really pulling you into the story, making you feel what the characters must be feeling. I only have 1 issue- the vomit. Every time this woman gets upset, there she goes, barfing her guts up. She's puked 7-8 times in the 68% I've read so far. I just don't understand why that's necessary. Aren't there any other ways to describe someone who's deeply emotionally affected?

(sigh)
Once again, we get the tired old trope of a person hearing something upsetting & being so affected by it that they have to immediately run & puke their guts out. 🙄
Do people REALLY vomit that easily IRL? I am over 40, & I think I've only met 1 person who ever had that sort of reaction to distressing news, but yet I see it happen in movies/books over and over again. Is it REALLY that common?

It's a little difficult to get into considering the subject matter, but it was recommended to me by someone who knew I liked the book We Need to Talk About Kevin.

No spoilers, but I'm finding myself feeling more like Noah's father does than the way his mother does. It's a very difficult position to be in, to be a parent of someone who commits a crime of this nature.

In this part, various characters hold their nose because a dog has gotten into something stinky- evidently in THIS fictional world, holding your nose suddenly makes you speak with an exaggerated lisp! 🙄 Of course, in the real world, we all know that holding your nose makes certain sounds muted, like n's and m's sound more like b's. But it never makes you suddenly start saying "thmells" instead of "smells".

OMG this author really, really loves run-on sentences , doesn't she? It's getting on my nerves a bit. I want to ask her, "Did you ever hear of this nifty little punctuation mark called a comma? They're wonderful if used properly!" Ugh.

Ugh this book is a lot more boring than I'd anticipated... also, the author employs a technique that really irritates me when I encounter it in true crime novels- giving the full life history of any and every character in the book no matter who they are.

Teresa is on page 61 of 336 of The Apartment
I agree with some of the other reviewers that yes, this did start out moving a little slow, and it was a bit boring- for instance, I don't need to be informed that Claire's boss 'doesn't give a hoot about creativity & how upsetting it is to her' five or six different times within the first 2 chapters. Only mentioning that once, maybe twice at most, would have been fully sufficient to get the point across.

Teresa is on page 55 of 272 of Rambling Rose
It seems to me that the author is the one who rambles- more so than any character does in this book! I get impatient with people who talk incessantly without ever getting to their point- so when it took this author from page 40 all the way to page 55 to FINALLY get to his point... Yeah, I find that irritating.

Well, I just finished the 1st story and believe me, it started the book off with a bang! What I mean by that is, it was emotionally explosive... I ended it with tears in my eyes & a lump in my throat.

Seriously?? What frigging planet does the author live on that he REALLY thinks that two people, one with a broken leg, who've just survived being murdered and are trapped on a mountain ledge that's only a few feet wide where they could easily fall to their deaths, are actively considering having sex on said ledge?? SERIOUSLY, RICHARD LAYMON?? Ughhh... I'm so done with this dude.
