Whoops my time ran out on Libby and I didn’t finish… but I don’t feel super motivated to check it out again. Though if usually looove Erdrich’s characters, these are falling a bit flat to me. Story hasn’t pulled me in. Maybe I’ll try again later…

This book is good when you get on a roll. But it's quite dark and depressing.

Love this as an audio book. It feels a whole lot like Midnight Feast (and probably every other Lucy Foley book) but it's so perfect for my commute.

Off to a rough start. Really don't like this writing style. Every other sentence is a platitude. But I'll keep going to give it a fair shot.

Found this featured at the library for Native American Heritage Month. I've read Fools Crow by James Welch, so figured this would be good! Lawyer as main character? I'm in. Parole board hearing? yep, i'm interested. Thriller? Checking it out. It's a bit slow so far, but I'll keep pushing into it.

Okay it's not quitting if I just put it off for a month!!! I just want to switch gears into spooky stuff for now, and then i'll revisit in Nov. It's feeling like good read so far, though I have to keep reminding myself that this book is NOT set in the 70s (I think)... idk why i'm defaulting to that? Maybe bc of The Holdovers.

Nooooooot quite vibing with this one. I've been listing to the audiobook on my way to work. The narrators voice is just too gruff. I get the effect, that's the vibe of Det. Hodges. But its getting grating.

The writing itself is not meeting my expectations. It's just... doing too much. I don't like the snarky tone. And the slurs??!?!?! I know its from the POV of an evil character but it's jarring to hear.

Trying the free audio books on Spotify... I have yet to actually listen through an entire audiobook. I just have trouble with them. But I like the narration here so I'll give it a try. Interest so far... though certainly predictable.

This book is booty, I quit. Yeah, the whole series is corny and all... but this was just wasn't feeling as immersive as the past. No charming description of the scenery or character. Just thrown right into the plot. Not hitting.

Interesting format of a book within a book.... Still feels like I'm breaking into this one. Beginning is heavy on description and character introduction. Just when I was getting impatient, we got back to the plot.

Ehhhh not really feeling this one right now. It's a bit dense, slow, detailed. I could be down for this another time, but not during bar prep when my brain is strained enough lol. Back on the shelf!

Was obsessed with the first two parts -- i literally couldn't wait to read them because I loved the setting and character. But both change in the next part and it's losing me a little...

I never read Moby Dick (should I?) but I'm still really liking this one. Coastal, fishy, historic, and a little magical. I want a bowl of chowder.

Found this on the new release display at the library -- I couldn't not pick it up with this cover, I mean!!

I am liking this more than I expected. It's funky and funny. The first 5 pages were rough (annoying and pick-me) but then it got self-aware. Glad I gave it a chance.

I really feel like I need to be reading this swampy summer story on the rocky shore of Lake Monroe while baking in the sun. It just doesn't quite feel right reading this in little snippets before bed. So I think I need to to put this one off a few more weeks...

I picked this up to save me from my suffer-spiral of depressing books that I just keep finding myself sucked into.

It's definitely an easy read (in terms of style and plot), but it's pretty bad so far tbh. I might finish it just to finish it, and see if my mind changes, but meh.

I really liked the first chapter or so.... but things took a turn for the ugly. Not what I was expecting. Might need to take a quick break for a light read (see my update on Crying in H Mart - i'm sensi right now ok)

Hitting pause on this... this heaviness is just not what I need in my life right now... I'll circle back after I run through a lighter read lol

The story is really picking up now. I don’t want to put it down, but my to do list is calling my name. Lemme check off a few and see if I can come back

Although this is an extremely slow read, and at times a bit dry, it's so artfully written that I can't seem to abandon these characters and the scenery. I've been tempted to DNF, but think I'd miss it. So slow and steady I go.

Thoughtful. Quite a few "hmmmm" moments. This book is helping me to think about myself and my relationships with more compassion. Being a person is hard and we are all just big babies.

This is a slow one. That's not a criticism, but an read on the vibe. So i'm taking my time with this one. It's a book about old ladies and it moves like one.

Part I done. Gonna put this on pause. The script-like style is just not hitting right now, I'll try again later. Moving this back to "want to read."
