This was a bold pick for me, seeing as I've never actually read The Picture of Dorian Gray, but luckily we live in a modern society where cliff notes and the internet exist. I could feign absolute shame, but the truth is I'm busy woman and Wilde is great and all, but I'm here for the feminist version where the Sibyl's are the story - not the erasure of women. 😘

I have never been more grateful for modern amenities like running water and showers than I am in this moment.

"The tumour on the side of its face was strangely deflated, the skin hanging loose and bloody like an empty sac."

As luck would have it, I just happened to take a sip of water at this precise moment: "Fluid leaked from the closest eye, as if it, too, had deflated."

I'm not squeamish, but this made my water taste weird.

This might be my favourite Armstrong standalone book ever, and definitely my favourite horror of hers. Homework and adult responsibilities be dammed, I'm finishing this today!

"I’ve spent my adult life looking for those safe footholds, for places where I can hole up and breathe and regain my balance. And, in my desperate bid for stability, I’ve always stayed just a little too long. Jobs where I was mistreated and cheated. Relationships where I was mistreated and cheated on... I cling until I’m washed away by a trickle of remaining dignity that finally says “enough.”"

Relatable 💀

Kelley Armstrong *would* write a variation of A Cabin at the End of the World and words cannot express how morbidly excited I am!!

Kelly Armstrong *would* write a variation of Cabin at the Edge of the World, one of my favourite horror comedies, and there are no words to describe how morbidly excited I am! 🖤

Losing myself in an Armstrong book is literally one of the easiest things in the world. I'm on a bit of a Canadian media binge right now between a Continuum re-watch and A Deadly inheritance. Now, if I could only clone myself so I could spend more time reading...

I love T. Kingfisher. Someone once described her writing to me as Competence Porn and I can never unsee it. Backed by Mary Robinette Kowal, I'm in heaven. Even with all the bugs.

I have no idea where this is going but Rory Barnett is a powerhouse performer and, as anyone could have guessed, Imogen Church is a rockstar. Love her.

Ex-CapitalSQUEEZE-me? This sounds amazing, but also it's narrated by Imogen Church?! *elaborately staged faint*

Short version: this is going to be incredible.

It's been a while since I've been so engaged in a story from an unknown (to me) author that I have to force myself to stop. Adulthood is the cruelty of wanting to linger in a story forever, but having *ew* responsibilities.

Believe it or not, this is my first foray into the Rockton spin-off series. As an eternal Armstrong fan, the Rockton and Haven's Rock series are the only books I haven't read, though I definitely own several. Here goes, jumping into the deep end!
