This chapter is not as convincing as the others. It feels as though Johnson is picking pieces from the Omen that fit her argument instead of having the film influence her argument.

Becoming like the Stepford Wives is one of my biggest fears. Having no control over my life or my body is terrifying, and I’m glad that there is a film where people can experience the horrors of having your autonomy stripped away.

Using The Exorcist as a device to promote public discourse about domestic violence is incredible. I have never heard any talk about this movie from this lens before, but after reading this chapter I’m starting to see how influential the film was on the fight against domestic violence.

While I’ve never seen Rosemary’s Baby, I knew of its plot and the horrors of the movie. What I didn’t know, and what I learned from this book, is how rooted the film is in reproductive advocacy of the late 60s and early 70s. I’m now planning on watching the movie from this lense!
