My new favorite book. A mix between Niel Gaiman, Ray Bradbury, and H.P. Lovecraft. I have been reading a lot of books lately that are greatly influenced by Lovecraft and other early science fiction and horror writers. This is the most personal with a focus on relationships and not just the monstrous things people do to one another. Worth a read.

I have to stop and hit the internet to further explore some of the things she introduces in her book, so it is slow going. For example, the physics of burning a candle and the forces manipulated by the London Bridge. So much to delve into and try to use with my own students. I love it.

I have been connecting with the material, but as the book switches gears and Vanessa is outwardly spiraling I am losing interest and finding it hard to stay the course. The story could have been wrapped up after Vanessa being forced to shoulder all the responsibility and having been shoved out of the boarding school alongside the present day *fallout of Stade. That stopped me cold and still requires processing.
