I’m glad Sayuri’s mizuage wasn’t as traumatizing as I was afraid it would be. My main impression from this book is how clueless and inconsiderate and unaware men are. Nobu is mad at her for being uncertain about a gift when all gifts to Sayuri have strings attached, THEN has the audacity to say basically all geisha are the same and only want money. Yeah, that’s their fucking job!
