False start the first time-starting over!

The main character is annoying enough to make me quit this book, but I won’t. Despite her meekness and the fact she’s managed to surround herself with a bunch of assholes, I’ll keep half listening.

I’m a few chapters in now and can’t help feeling that I’ve read this before. It’s not on my Goodreads list, and I’ve been keeping track for well over 10 years. Perhaps it’s just formulaic. Not that it’s uninteresting, it just feels like I know what’s going to happen.

I don’t recall how I came across this book, but I’m so glad I did.

I’ve just started, but I think I’ve got it figured out. We’ll see if I’m right!

For one thing, I feel like I've read/listened to this before. I'm somewhere about halfway done with it and it's taken a turn for the ridiculous.

Also, the narrator is really terrible. Maybe that's why I can't stand the main character? His voice really gives Gabe's character snide, sarcastic, verging on evil characteristics that I'm not sure is intended.

I might have to dnf this one. I am always interested in these things, but the author's hard core fanboying is distracting.

Wonderful highs and heartbreaking lows. A wonderful tribute to one of my favorites.

I keep plugging away just hoping something happens to redeem it...

Oh but if this isn't one that just grabs your heart...

I'm going to finish this, but...it's just not the book for me. Granted, it's another that I'm listening to and you would *think* that would add to the story, but the continual interruptions for citations ruins a lot of it for me. Many recognizable voices came together to make this reading happen, and I think it could've been good, but fell short (for me).

Obvious repeated phrases grate my nerves. This time it's how Rose "fed the car some gas." Over and over. Let's think of other ways we can say that. Accelerated? Sped up? Pressed the go button? 😛

I dont know why I'm doing this to myself, other than needing audiobooks to listen to while I clean/paint/run.

I'm honestly not sure what's happening. I don't think I mind. I think.

Yep, I'm certain I've read this before and I think it's more annoying this time than it was the first time.

Only on page 53 and the writing is reminiscent of E.L. James's Anastasia Steele. Less hanky lanky, same trite writing.

Harder than you'd think, reading in a Scottish brogue or whatever. but it's what is taking up most of my time.
