Robin Hobb books are my secret reading obsession. They build up over the length of the book but I recommend starting at the beginning of the series to get the full effect. My one problem is with the jacket covers. They try to telegraph who would like these books but fail.

This is our current "read aloud" book. Fast moving and, in my opinion, technically on the mark. One of the best reading hard science fiction books in a while.
