3/4 of the way through and I was poised to give this a 5 star wowser rating - at times so emotive that I felt the necessity to compose myself, feelings that not many (if any) can claim to have stirred in me. However the last 1/4 was a real dampener, felt too holier than thou, too overly moralistic - a much too perfect ideal of a denouement to be acceptable. That being said, I would recommend - up to a point

I was looking forward to reading this book having received 2 positive comments when browsing a charity shop however Bythell's diary account of running a book shop fell somewhat flat. My endeavours to complete the book possibly had more to do with following the antics of Nicky rather than the dyspeptic demeanour of the author
