Oh no, another Harry Potter ff story, which I didn’t realize until reaching about 40%. Well, at least this isn’t M-rated and full of torture. I’m bit in a reading slump, so trying different stories to find a way out. I feel the world-building is a touch too light for me, and this whole talk about monoliths and whatnot isn’t fully integrated yet to make me understand the story and its magic

Let’s see…my prediction. The heroine is secretly a witch with necromantic powers, the one the hero was sent to kill. Instead, he decides to use her as his own pawn but falls in love with her. And the heroine was sent to the prison by her father because everyone fears necromancers.

The writing has been surprisingly good. Didn’t know what to expect but the pacing is beginning to drag. Hope it picks up soon.

Absolutely adore this book. One of the best ones I’ve read this year, and I’m not even finished.

DNF'd. Which is a pity. I got about mid point and the book still felt meandering and the central conflict wasn't anywhere near in sight. I usually really like Sharon Shinn's stories, but this one just didn't sit right with me.

DNF'd. One of those few books I just couldn't finish. Such a pity. Overall, I like Sharon Shinn, and I recall really enjoying the earlier books. Just couldn't complete this one...
