every chapter preface is basically a little run-down of post-structuralism and semiotics and how they can be applied to symbols, as well as a mini-rant about the rise of phallogocentricism, which i'm not mad about. it's hard to read straight through though bc it's like a dictionary...it feels like it would be a great reference book (but you have to read the entire book to know what references are included, so eh)

this is going to sound weird, but I'm remembering like EVERY WORD of this book even though I read it back in 2004. I guess it had more of an impact on me than I thought. all these poetic passages and stuff? I'm vividly remembering how I felt/reacted when I first read them. it's really neat.
