I'm going to be honest when I say that the first 2-4 chapters of this book are a bit chock full of exposition. HOWEVER, once you get past it, things get and are getting really good 🤩

I am temporarily putting this book back on the shelf. I am enjoying it, but my brain just isn't letting me read it right now. Stress levels make it hard for me to read a number of things that my brain registers as anxiety inducing, and sometimes that means the most compelling books are the most difficult to continue with. I am hoping to finish this one before the end of the year, but I am not going to push myself.

I'm still SO INTO this book. The depth of character development is impressive. On brief occasions in the text I've felt a bit 'get on with it already!' but I'm still enjoying this ride SO MUCH.

I'm taking this book slowly, mostly because I am really enjoying it, but partly because I'm trying to manage my anxiety levels and I don't want my anxiety to attach itself to this wonderful book.

I am loving this book. It's SO compelling and the characters are so interesting. They're SO flawed but so human and I adore it.

Y'all, I am literally 13% into this book and it might be one of the best books I've read so far. Seriously, if this keeps up, I am recommending it to EVERY SINGLE PERSON I ever come across.

I wish more people would be critical of the anti-fatness that they have been taught in society. That bias is harming so many. So far, this is been an excellent read. A great balance of information and empathy.

So far, this book has been amazing and affirming. If the first third of the book is anything to go on, this is going to be one of my favorites of the year.

A bit frustrated with the author and their use of certain examples. He talks about Chinese peasants being able to break down and ship a purchased steel mill from Germany to China in less time and for less cost than experts would have accrued. He never addresses labor conditions or differences in culture when it comes to fair labor practices. This omission feels important.

The way this book is attacking me (read as, "showing how much of my behaviors and reactions are based on past trauma") is both validating and painful. *sob*

I can already feel this book is SUCH an important read as it encourages and forces the reader to see the racist, sexist history of the American library (and the ALA). That is CRITICAL!

I'm not even done with the author's note and the author has mentioned nonbinary people in their (her?) description of people who work at the library. So, until something changes, I LOVE THIS BOOK. That is all. xD

Into some of the methods of managing anxiety/panic and the book definitely has some good points. And a huge THANK YOU for explaining WHY exercise is good for anxiety. Usually ppl are just like, "it releases endorphines!" and leave out the part where the panic actually readies your muscles to act & using exercise to do just that can alleviate symptoms of panic.
