Solid book. Bit disjointed and feels unfinished in parts but I think, whether intended or not, it does make sense for this story. Feels like a honest portrayal of what happens when a full-scale invasion is launched in the country your book is set in, in the middle of writing.

Just so good. The characters feel so real. I want more of Lila’s inner monologue though. Also post WW2 is my time period of interest so the mentions of politics I enjoyed especially. I saved so many quotes from this I don’t even know where to begin. So much of Lenú’s thoughts are painfully relatable.

But from Lila - “There, for the entire evening, she had felt irrefutably lost.”
