I’ve read two chapters and my powers of comprehension are being challenged to summarize what this book is about so far. I’m primarily motivated to read and understand this book having grown up under the long shadow cast by Nixon/Watergate scandal of the early 70’s. I’m into my 50’s now and I hope to use what I glean from this book to understand the impact of the past has affected my life.

So far this is an easy and informative book.

This is the end of Chapter (Rule) 1. I will go back to reread,a measure of investment in this book. The two things that stand out to me at the end of this particular reading are:

standing up means voluntarily accepting the burden of being.

…adopting the burden of self-conscious vulnerability, and accepting the end of the unconscious paradise of childhood, where finitude and morality are only dimly comprehended.

WTH am I reading?!
