This author gets off to a very compelling start.

I'm finding this novel uncomfortable to read, not due to any lack of quality in the writing, but in the way some of the events resemble what's going on in our world at the moment. But I'll prevail and finish it.

Reading this novel is sort of like putting together a picture puzzle made of many tiny parts. Some of its scenes are long and involved. But some are a single paragraph long when she switches back and forth from one character to another.

A sequel to Penny's The Grey Wolf, this novel early on sets itself up as a tale about the archetypal struggle between good and evil.

I'm really enjoying this fast-paced, intriguing mystery.

I'm looking forward to reading this selection of my Mysteryscape Women of Intrigue mystery book club.

The plot has thickened nicely on several fronts.

Allingham gets a very interesting discussion nature vs. nurture going between Campion and another character about a suspect in this classic mystery.

I'm enjoying Allingham's descriptions of characters, but they seem a bit weird, too, with a character, Albert Campion for instance, making observations about another character that no one I know would really make.
