Brett is reading The Rook (The Checquy Files, #1)
I was considering a rating between 3 and 4 stars but will pick 4 because I liked the ending. There are plenty of characters and lots of threads to the novel. The heroines, 2 or 1 of them? They are endearing and talented. The monsters are pretty good Sci Fi creations. The complicated bureaucracy driving the story is reminiscent of spy thrillers with the amnesia line of inquiry like Jason Bourne. It’s a longer book.

Brett is finished with World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
I keep enjoying zombie stories and stories about viruses. This brings them together. I liked the nod to Studs Turkel and the journalistic interviews to tell the story. I thought the movie was very different, focusing on a single story but both were fun.

Enjoying this book a lot! Examines the system-level dynamics of conflicts, especially partisanship in the US. Seeing his visuals has helped me step out of the muck.

Brett is reading Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century
I watched the movie twice before reading the book. The book is excellent writing and explores several characters as the live a nomadic lifestyle in the United States. Great commentary about our consumerist lifestyle and out harrowing endgame.

Brett is reading Benediction (Plainsong, #3)
Just competed this series of books. I thought Benediction was a sweet novel about people in the small Colorado town. I only have a vague sense of the earlier two books but I liked the relationships in the stories and Dad Lewis’ centrality and his coming to terms with his life at the end was endearing. He brought people together and helped them see how important they are to each other.
