Audiobooks, baby

It’s taken in around the edges, trimmed away the fatty sides and condensed. But I bet it still tastes like before.

It's my idea of actively hating

nu al (na 2 hoofdstukken) een pareltje van WF Hermans’ schrijfstijl.

Helder, ironisch en meeslepend kunnen schrijven over een moeilijk leesbare, laat staan verstaanbaar schrijvende filosoof, is een prachtstaaltje van Hermansiaans literair talent.

Ik ben nú al fan.

zucht Als ik de Bijbel wil lezen, zal ik dat wel doen. Azo zagen 🤮

Al meteen veel interessanter en dringender geschreven dan het andere boek dat ik hiervoor las en waar ik het mee vergelijk, alleen al omwille van de gelijkenissen tussen de auteurs.

Op de valreep nog een mooi poëtisch debuut gelezen waar ik met de alle wil van de wereld geen enkele samenvatting van zou geven.

From all the editions, I had to go cheap and buy the one with the ugliest cover ever. Have you ever seen a book cover where you can see the giant pixels? They couldn’t even spring for a decent cover picture.

When I’m done, I’m gifting it. Who wants it (time to see who actually reads these things)? Who wants a free book?

“Mijn aandacht is een stolp waaronder niet te leven valt.” (p. 128)

Bregje (de hoofdfiguur) gaat gebukt onder de idee van liefde. Ze investeert zó veel aandacht en energie dat ze er kapot aan gaat. Niemand heeft haar ooit verteld dat dát liefde is, dus waar haalt ze die vermoeiende tendens vandaan? Haar ouders? Let’s find out.

Almost there. Hebert Spencer turns out to be somewhat more tedious than anticipated.

Not yet reading, but I listened to this podcast:

and that proved to be very interesting. As one does in a year where the only thing that's left is reading, I ordered the book.

No professional philosopher can claim to understand more than 10% of this book. Even books explaining the Ethics come up with different theories and explanations. Either god is nature, or nature is a part of god's infiniteness, or god is seen as nature's idealized deep structure, or it's all pantheistic atheism after all, they all differ in viewpoint.

Nonetheless, one of my favorite books.

As some of you may know, Language, the Brain’s capacity for language and thought and ultimately Consciousness is one of those big questions that occupy my thoughts a lot.
So this book has helped clarify and progress my thoughts on this elusive subject.
