Although the chapters are only 1-2 pages long, I’m finding this hard to get through. I don’t feel excited to pick it back up. It’s taken be about 3 days to read 30%. That’s completely abnormal for me! While the context is necessary, the writing feels like mental chatter.

*snapsnapsnaps* He has captured what our consciousness has always known to be true. I’m experiencing a necessary work. I’m grateful for Ta-Nehisi for reminding us to never stop questioning.

I’m still locked in! The back & forth between future and present, as well as the political history, has my brain in a blender sometimes. But I’m grateful for the meetings to “recap” that Reich has written in, almost like he’s saying, “Is everyone still with me?”

THIS MAN DOES NOT DISAPPOINT WITH THIS SERIES!!! I am thoroughly enjoying the action! I couldn’t wait to get my eyes on this book when it came out! This man is truly an artist, giving me just the right words to produce this action movie in my mind! I feel like I’m every character! I don’t want to put this book down and I’ll be sad when it ends!

It’s building slow, but I’m gonna tough it out! This interview with Lucy isn’t very long, but it’s feeling long as we’re getting the vibe that there are things she’s apprehensive about sharing. At the same time, we’re still trying to resolve the mystery surrounding her father’s leaving. I’m ready for this story to grow wings and take flight!

Enchanting…This is literary art, so each page demands respect and appreciation. I can’t devour this in a few sittings; this tome is taking time! Like a monk, I feel like my patience is being tested though. But I know that my consciousness needs this bath. Also, I love how each section screams, “Is Freedom really free?” This author really created something beautiful with this book!

He did it again! He told the truth and blew my mind! Well done, Mark! I’m gonna be talking about these 2 books for years to come! This book also is so enjoyable to read! I love the conversational style that gives my Thinking Brain a break to allow my Feelings Brain the opportunity to consider what it’s feeling.

84% That’s where the book has me SHOOK!! Phenomenal read and way better than the movie!! Definitely going in my Fave list! I absolutely love how Stephen King immerses me in each character. It’s amazing how quick I transition between each person, adding to the paranoia, suspense, and conflict! I empathize with each character! All of them (and me!) are screaming, “Enough already! Put us out of our misery!”

Absolutely beautiful! I love the fierce tenderness with which the author portrays the main character, a midwife. I love how she doesn’t hold back in conveying the hypocrisy of patriarchy! At the same time, handling the traditional expectations of mothers & fathers, sons & daughters, friends & envious neighbors with wit and grace. So far, I also love how she humanizes every character. I feel like I know them all!

Another fave by Kirsten Miller!!! She hilariously captured the ignorance of several generations and the chapters are to the point! She isn’t wasting any words which makes this book pleasurable to read.

The DRAMA!! This may become a top favorite! How I feel as if I’m every character in the story so far is a testament to the skill of this author! I’m still captivated by the writing and this story! Beautiful!

The book is surprising me! Since I read The Kite Runner, I feel more knowledgeable of the setting. I’ve read A Thousand Splendid Suns as well and this is definitely another layer for understanding the Afghan people culturally. It’s clever how the characters in these works all lived at the same time. I feel like I’m there with them and wondering what my life would be like.

I had no idea what to expect going into this book. So far I definitely like the candidness of it while she’s a child. But I have a feeling that that same candidness will be a gut punch when she’s sharing her traumas and adult experiences.

Whew! I have to say, it’s different, but I like it! There’s definitely a particular audience and that audience is Me. I respect Danzy for being brave, rebellious, and bold enough to be honest, to bare the soul of Americans of the Diaspora. The cringe I think I felt at certain moments speak to my own self-preservation and the groomed responsibility to protect white supremacy, the hand that’s fed me.

This is a hard read! It’s moving a bit slow and the concept feels heavy, but elusive. Like trying to catch a fat wasp. I find that I’m more in my own thoughts with no resolution or input from the author. Is that the point? I think so far it’d make a good discussion book, but I wouldn’t call this entertaining. Is this truly representing the different types of Enslaved Americans of the past and present?

I’m lost in thought…so many thoughts! Jennifer & Finney have captured each character and simultaneously made us one with each of them. I’ve felt transported into their inner worlds, their struggles, and their traumas, conflicted in the same ways as if we’re doing this life together. I so desperately want to know what happened to Lily!

I’m surprised by how sad it started. Now 16% in, I’m still waiting for something to happen. I’m assuming this family is going to go into a tailspin when one of them gets to the Maine house and find it’s been sold? The cover of this book doesn’t relate to the vibe of the story yet.

I’m finding the narration to be entertaining! It’s a welcomed break from the other books that I’ve read! Like he said, I thought it’d be a whodunit but it’s whydunit instead! I’m enjoying the character development as well! The author did a fantastic job separating each of the characters - even the narrator from himself as Author!

Honestly, I’m finding it a bit boring. I don’t care for the repetitiveness of the story. I found it hard to stay awake while reading it. It drolls on & on. It doesn’t seem like there’s much of a plot. Readers are just watching Nora’s life like an episode of Big Brother. I don’t care for how Haig is developing her character. Is she mentally ill or simply lonely and socially awkward?
