Not sure why I decided to bring more stress in my life, but damn this book is fascinating.

I’m bored.

STOP RUINING POTENTIALLY GOOD BOOKS WITH UNNECESSARY LUSTING OVER DUBIOUS MEN!!

So… it’s literally the same plot as Hunger Games, but not as well developed. But also Red Queen with all the powers and cringey love triangle. Also, they have electric lights and tv screens but fight with swords and daggers? I don’t know, it’s a mess.
This may be the troupe-iest book of troupes I’ve probably ever read, but all admit I’m enjoying it.

I have fallen for it again: my ever lingering hope that a Romantasy series wont inevitably dissolve to trash.
To be fair, I’m only 40% through, but it appears this sequel has forgotten to include any aspects of the fantasy world that were actually worth my time in the first book.
Also, stop playing up Elm as this “bad boy” when his thoughts and behavior only lead me to believe he’s a sensitive little bitch.

This book could have been written about me. As a 30-something year old parent who once enjoyed a spontaneous life in Chicago but now googles “Wellness apps” and is currently struggling through “the bottom of the curve,” I have never felt so seen.

Emily Wilde is a brilliantly written character. Smart and independent without being overpowering. Introverted without being sullen and withdraw. Humble charm and wit, with strong self awareness and confidence. She is the female protagonist I wish we saw more of.

I never quit books… but I’m on the verge of quitting this one.

This book is well written, but I just can’t get on board with how depressing the magical world is…

Yikes, this is really a dark reality for wizards.
Great main character though, interesting magic system and environment.

I’m so pleasantly surprised by how modern thinking this book is despite it being written in the late 1800s

I genuinely can’t figure out why I am enjoying this book so much
