Reading this for a book club, this is definitely not a book I would have picked up otherwise.

My issue with books like this is that they make me so sad and so angry. So far this is well written but I just don't want to read more about slavery and its effect on this family. Its not that I don't care but that I hurt reading all this.

I'm just not sure what to make of Violet 😂 she's a mess but in that way that everyone seems to be in their mid 20s but there is also this element of self destructiveness. Which I can honestly relate to. Which is probably why I'm not sure what to make of Violet.

Yomi's ***Flawless chapter and Elizabeth's Watercolor Microaggressions chapters are just way too real. Not quite halfway through and I'm obsessed with this book and recommend it to *everyone* no matter their skin tone. It puts into words what so many "Strong Black Women" feel and experience on the daily.
