omg I’m so bored

Just cried on the bus on my 3rd read of opening essay-
“I came to recognize a source of power in myself that comes from the knowledge that while it is most desirable not to be afraid, learning to put fear in perspective gave me great strength.”
“the machine will try to grind you into dust anyway, whether or not we speak…we can sit in our safe corners mute as bottles, and we will still be no less afraid.”

sigh I want to stop reading this but might as well finish, not good

I quite immediately think this is kinda bizarrely brilliant and hits a sweet spot of absurdity for my taste…

“Was heaven, then, to be merely another ghetto?”

“Capitalism has no more land left to cultivate but the self. Everything is being cannibalized—not just goods and labor, but personality and relationships with attention.”

“We have failed to fully appreciate how deeply housing is implicated in the creation of poverty. Not everyone living in a distressed neighborhood is associated with gang members, parole officers, employers, social workers, or pastors. But nearly all of them have a landlord.”

“‘Why me?’ I ask God. God says nothing. I laugh and the stars watch. It’s good to be alive.”

"Why treat people and send them back to the conditions that made them sick?" — As I'm entering the global health space a bit, I see that this question desperately needs to be asked in midst of various initiatives.
The way this is written is a little bizarre sometimes to me... but it will still be valuable!
