Had to take a break because I cannot stand this character…

I was not prepared for how depressing this book was going to be. Beautifully written, but really… getting through it is a heavy process.

I’m just here to say that this Lucinda person is infuriatingly stupid. And Joshua as a bad guy is not convincing at all.

I’m just here to announce that I’m a wreck. Despite having read several of Backman’s books before, he still manages to surprise me. Witty, brilliant, heart-breaking, and all too real.

"...hope is never generated among us but always given to us. And whenever it is given we are amazed" (79).

I think I hate this book.

Oh no, why does McEwan have to make it so embarrassing? Just when it was finally starting to get interesting, I suddenly don't want to read any further!

“With each passing day it became obvious we were a group of fledgling do-gooders, united by a common, get unspoken awareness that we could never do much good for many people, but maybe some good for a few” (p.101).

Halfway through this book and I honestly just want to put it down and not finish it. It's a rare thing for me. Although I understand the historical and social importance of the book, I'm really struggling to get through it. Wish me luck!

what a mountain of book! not un-interesting, but definitely taking some real effort.

Surprisingly entertaining!

This book is so thick and profound, I have to stop and re-read every other sentence.
