Mid-point review: the story is missing that Dark Sun quality. The main character seems wise beyond his years (in a Mary Sue sense). Every conflict has been easily resolved, nothing sacrificed, no hard choices. The initial love interest with Ryana feels like a huge missed opportunity. There is still plenty of book to go, but right now the story feels neither character or plot driven.
