So far this fiction reads like a Taiwan history textbook/travel guide for people without any relevant cultural background.
However, I found it very interesting to read about Taiwan from the perspective of a Chinese American.

I’m very surprised that at the supermarket she worked at there were baggers to bag the groceries for the shoppers, even in 2021/2022. In China where labor is relatively cheap, shoppers do their own bagging for decades.
Weighing everything on a scale at self checkout is very stressful and confusing. Luckily I only experienced it once in a small town in Portugal last year.

This book focuses on the family of the last Mei King in Nhaga, not the ordinary people of Tibet as I expected. But nevertheless it is quite interesting. The scope and perspective are unfortunately limited and narrow by nature

This book is about Tibet, and she focuses on Ngaba (Ana in Chinese), part of which is in Sichuan province. I don’t know much about the area. But I know that in recent years there are noticeably more Tibetans living in my hometown, Chengdu. You see them everywhere in the heart of the city in their traditional/religious costumes.

Minor detail: “Hunan’s food is nearly as spicy as the more famous cuisine of neighboring Sichuan Province”. This is not true. Hunan food is a lot more spicier than Sichuan cuisine😂😅
