Desperately trying to squeeze in as many spooky books as possible during spooky season...

Oh my god, though - Luke Francis giving Eustacia a Northern Irish accent? That whatever-it-is attempt at a Northern Irish accent? Ugh! Are there any other listeners out there feeling my pain? 🤦😂

Everybody clock the Tori Amos reference at 98%?

Can someone buy Iris an alarm clock?

Yes, I did select this myself for book club. Yes, my wellbeing kind of does regret that error of judgement.

Also, for Holy Mary Mother of Christ's sake, can SOMEONE please remove the reference to a known sexual predator from the blurb of this awe-inspiring articulation of the fight for female bodily autonomy, of female rage rallying against religious shame, pro-life fanaticism, religion-based child abuse, homophobia, victim blaming, incest and paedophilia, sexual assault and all other forms of patriarchal misogyny? Please?

C. J. Leede, you are wrecking me! Not only quoting Precious Things, but now you have Sophie have her first exploration whilst Baz Luhrmann's Romeo&Juliet plays??? Only the exact same scene from MY OWN LIFE?! (Well, apart from the burgeoning Armageddon.)
Oh, I just knew the seeing-each-other-through-the-glass scene was calling back to that movie. Heart eyes!

Em, excuse me? Leede opens a novel by quoting Tori? I thought I was in love before, but now?

Continuing on, books with monster in their title...
'She Made Herself a Monster', 'We Were Monsters', 'The Maiden and Her Monster' - all huge disappointments.
Kalynn Bayron, let's see if we can get above two stars!

"A man having an emotion is the most important event in the history of the world!"

Oh, the epistolary novel: sigh!

She's listening to From the Choirgirl Hotel! SHE'S LISTENING TO TORI AMOS! (Automatic five-star review clause invoked.)

Oh, Michael Crouch can read me any boy-loves-boy thing!

So, Elliot's 17 - why does he get AN OFFICE?!
I (woefully) don't understand the American school system; as an Irish girl reading this, I've thought for a quarter of the book that this was in a university!

WHAT AGE ARE THESE PEOPLE???!!!

Lori Prince! Lori Prince!
Even if it's only for 4 hours, I'll listen to anything Lori Prince wants to read to me...

The air grew crisp and cold and more murdery

Oh my god, I have to go back and read 'Bunny' AND 'The Secret History'...

A 1990s Tori Amos reference? Could I be any more in love?!

Just got into Peter's pov; Kuang is a wonder!

I love it when Kuang writes novels based upon my Ph.D thesis.

Is anybody able to keep track of all these characters?!

"I suppose that means I must eat someone."

How does Bridget Collins do this?!

'...because her dress had no pockets.' FFS!

Oh my god, if she uses the word insidious or petrichor ONE MORE TIME...

Because rage shatters out, not in.

Squeal! Arc approval!!!
