Fascinating book. I’m not sold on the thesis yet. I need a better answer to Tim Snyder’s Black Earth which shows law versus lawlessness is more of an issue, though these authors appear to be in the Neo-Hobbesian tradition I’ve seen.

Is it me or is this book entirely about Trump even though he isn’t directly mentioned?

Finally, a book about water that isn't a Mathusian self-flagellation extravaganza.

So far, I'm wondering if there is any discussion of places and times where insurgencies were rendered more or less irrelevant and the occupying force managed to win collaborators in greater numbers than the insurgents.

One place that comes to mind is both sides of the eastern front in World War II. I'm not sure this is the answer anyone is looking for, but I think it fits the bill.
